BOTOX & JUVEDERM
As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish as wrinkles and folds form. But that doesn't mean you have to take it lying down.
Botox and Juvederm to the rescue! Botox Cosmetic® is approved for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65. When powerful muscles between the brows contract, they draw the brows together, causing the skin to fold or furrow. As skin becomes less elastic with age, those folds or furrows result in stubborn lines. Because frown lines are dynamic lines caused by overactive muscles, they can usually be treated with tiny injections of Botox® Cosmetic. Static lines, on the other hand, are lines that are visible even when the muscles are at rest and these lines are usually treated with a filler, such as Juvederm® injectable gel. Immediate results that can last for months!

Information is power. So here's a a little background on Botox and Juvederm treatments at Smooth Skin Centers.
How does Botox work?
Very low doses of Botox® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles responsible for frown lines between the brows. By blocking the release of a chemical that causes these muscles to contract, Botox®Cosmetic enables them to relax. The effects are very localized and do not affect your ability to smile, laugh, or otherwise show expression. Botox Cosmetic is the only product of its kind that has been approved for use in this area.
How does Juvederm work?
Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar found in all mammals and a major component of the dermis connective tissue matrix. HA retains water like a sponge, absorbing more than 1000 times its weight. This helps to attract and maintain water, hydrating your skin and increasing its volume and density. HA is also involved with the transport of essential nutrients to the skin’s viable cells. Juvéderm®is the only hyaluronic acid filler FDA approved to last up to one year!
What will your treatment
be like?
A typical treatment takes 15 - 30 minutes. Before we start, our nurse will review your history understand your areas of concern. Then, she'll administer the Botox or Juvederm (or both!) using a small needle. No anesthesia is required, though our nurse may choose to numb the area to be treated with a cold pack or a topical numbing cream prior to injecting.
What can you expect
after your treatment?
Discomfort following the treatment is usually minimal and brief, and you should feel fine to go about your day following your treatment, though you may experience temporary bruising and/or swelling in the treated area. If you use aspirin or ibuprofen, you may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. You'll want to avoid straining, lifting heavy things, or vigorous exercise for three days. Post-treatment aftercare instructions are found here.
