How It Works!
The treatment of red spots, blood blisters, or angiomas (as they are called) is a simple procedure, where the distance gauge is placed around the spot, then a pulse of energy breaks up the red spot. It typically evolves into a darker blood blister, and within a few days, it shrinks and eventually disappears. One treatment is usually all that is required.
When treating brown, sun, or age spots, we use a distance gauge to press the blood on the spot out of the way, and then the laser beam attacks the brown pigment. It’s just that easy! Within a few days, the brown pigment will crust up (like a scab), and then over the next several days, the scab will begin to disintegrate. Once the scab is gone, the skin may be a bit pink, but it will quickly be restored to blend with your skin tone. Additional treatments may be necessary for older, deeper brown spots.

- The distance gauge is applied to the skin.
- The distance gauge is pressed down, pressing away the blood so that the brown color is targeted.
- The laser breaks up the color.
- The distance gauge is removed, blood returns, and there is visible reduction is color.
Why our laser is the best:
When it comes to treating brown and red spots, a pulse dye laser is the equipment to use. Our laser is quite simply the fastest, most effective pulse dye laser on the market. We are able to be more aggressive in attacking the brown spot without leading to bruising or other contraindications like hyper pigmentation or hypo pigmentation.
- Shaving the day prior to your laser treatment is recommended.
- Avoid direct sun exposure (being in the sun without sunscreen) on the area(s) you’re having treated for seven days prior to your treatment.
- Also, don’t use Retin A on the area(s) to be treated for seven days prior to your treatment.
- Finally, if you are using Accutane, please let us know prior to scheduling your appointment.
During the Treatment:
If you’ve never been to our office before, you’ll have some paperwork to complete, including a medical history, skin type chart, and laser consent form. This takes just a few minutes. Once our technician has reviewed your history and has answered all your questions, we’ll escort you to the laser room. You’ll need to take clothing off any area we’re treating. We’ll ensure there is no hair present on the area(s) we’re treating, then wipe the area to be treated with a wash cloth or baby wipe. We’ll calibrate the laser based on the size of your spots, then you and the technician will don the appropriate safety goggles. Let the zapping begin! Each brown spot will get two pulses
Length of Time for the Treatment:
One brown or red spot takes one second to treat. No spot is too small or too big – the larger spots will be divided into sections and treated by section.
After the Treatment:
After a brown spot treatment, the treated area will usually be red or dark brown. It may look sore and feel sensitive. Your skin will be sensitive to the sun, so you’ll apply sunscreen before you leave our office. We have sunscreen for your use, so don’t worry about bringing in your own (though you can if you want). You will need to keep the spot from drying out as it heals, and we recommend Vitaclude, by Sanitas, or Neosporin. You will be able to go about your life after the treatment, and you can shower, apply makeup, etc. In other words, there’s no down time after a spot removal treatment.
